DAY 01: Cusco – Tinki – Upis

To begin the 3-day Ausangate Trek and Rainbow Mountain Tour, depart from the city of Cusco at 7:00 a.m., then travel in a private vehicle south of Cusco. During this 3.5-hour journey, you will pass through beautiful small and colorful towns: Urcos, Ocongate, Tinki, and finally reach the community of Upis, located on the slopes of the snow-capped Ausangate mountain.

After the first lunch at the Upis campsite, you will have free time to take a walk around Ausangate Qocha (Ausangate Lagoon), a beautiful freshwater lagoon formed by melting ice. You will also enjoy the stunning panoramic view of Peru’s fifth-highest mountain, the snow-capped Ausangate (6,385 meters above sea level). If you are lucky, you may witness the ice slide.

Later, relax in the hot springs of Upis and enjoy your dinner (6:30 p.m.), prepared by our local cook.

DAY 02: Upis – Puka Qocha – Abra Chillca – Ananta

Today will be the challenging day of the 3-day Ausangate Trek and Rainbow Mountain Tour because you will walk over 20 kilometers and pass two higher points: Abra Arapa at 4,980 meters above sea level and Abra Chillca at 4,995 meters above sea level.

To start today’s activities, you will wake up at 5:00 a.m. with coca tea in your tent, and at 5:30 a.m., you will have an energy-packed breakfast. Then, begin your uphill walk to Puka Qocha (Red Lagoon), where you will enjoy a healthy lunch with beautiful views: stone forests, small freshwater streams, picturesque lagoons, and snow-capped mountains.

After your delicious lunch, continue your journey to the Ananta campsite (4,710 meters above sea level), where you will spend the second night of the Ausangate Trek and Rainbow Mountain Tour. Likewise, this part of your adventure will be unique, as you will pass the second highest point, the Chillca Pass, from where you will enjoy the splendid beauty of nature. You will also see hundreds of South American camels (Vicuñas, Alpacas, and Llamas), and finally, you will arrive at the Ananta campsite.

DAY 03: Ananta – Rainbow Mountain – Red Valley – Chilliwani – Cusco

Today is the last day of the 3-day Ausangate Trek and Rainbow Mountain Tour. However, it is a highly anticipated day as you will visit one of the most popular and touristy places in recent years, “Rainbow Mountain and the Red Valley.”

After appreciating the natural beauty, you will begin descending to the community of Chilliwani, where your private vehicle will be waiting to take you back to the city of Cusco.
