Itinerary Classic Inca Trail to Machu Picchu – 4 Days
Day 1: Cusco – Km 82 – Wayllabamba
Starting altitude: 2,680 m (8,792 ft)
Ending altitude: 3,000 m (9,843 ft)
Distance: 12 km / 7.4 miles
Hiking time: ~6 hours
We’ll pick you up early from your hotel and drive to Km 82, the official starting point of the Inca Trail. From here, we begin hiking along the Urubamba River, enjoying stunning views and visiting the archaeological site of Llactapata. After a scenic trek, we’ll camp at Wayllabamba, surrounded by the Andes.
Day 2: Wayllabamba – Warmiwañusca – Pacaymayo
Highest altitude: 4,215 m (13,828 ft) – Dead Woman’s Pass
Distance: 11 km / 6.8 miles
Hiking time: ~8 hours
This is the most challenging day of the trek. We’ll climb to Warmiwañusca Pass, the highest point of the trail, and enjoy incredible views. After a break at the summit, we descend into the Pacaymayo Valley, where we’ll set up camp and enjoy a warm meal.
Day 3: Pacaymayo – Phuyupatamarca – Wiñay Wayna
Minimum altitude: 2,650 m (8,694 ft)
Distance: 15 km / 9.3 miles
Hiking time: ~9 hours
After breakfast, we continue toward the archaeological sites of Runkurakay, Sayacmarca, and Phuyupatamarca, nestled in the cloud forest. We’ll then descend to Wiñay Wayna, one of the most beautiful Inca sites on the trail, where we’ll spend our last night camping.
Day 4: Wiñay Wayna – Inti Punku – Machu Picchu – Cusco
This is the final and most anticipated stretch of the popular 4-Day Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, as you’ll finally visit one of the New Seven Wonders of the World — Machu Picchu.
Begin your final day of trekking before dawn with a hearty breakfast at 4:00 a.m. Say goodbye to your porters and chef, and start walking at 4:30 a.m., following a trail through the lush tropical forest filled with diverse flora and fauna.
You’ll reach the Sun Gate (Inti Punku), from where you’ll get your first breathtaking view of the majestic Inca citadel of Machu Picchu. Then, descend to the main entrance of the site and enjoy a 2-hour guided tour with your local expert guide.
After the tour, take the bus down to Aguas Calientes and enjoy lunch at a restaurant of your choice (not included). Later, head to the train station to board your train back to Ollantaytambo or Poroy (departure at 2:55 p.m., 3:20 p.m., or 4:20 p.m.). Upon arrival, our staff will be waiting to transfer you by private vehicle back to your hotel in Cusco.
Note: If you have a ticket to climb Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain, you can do so on your own after the guided tour.

Arrive in Cusco at least 2 days before the trek begins for proper acclimatization.
